Week 1
A day later than planned (a technical problem with a scanner caused the delay) the story about the first week in the life of the puppies is here.

During the first days the only things the pups do is drinking and sleeping. Luckily the mother has plenty of milk. Their hungry stomachs are filled many times a day. To get enough nutrients to produce all that milk the bitch needs to have more and richter food. A double serving, while a large part has been replaced by puppy food, fills her needs.

The chart shows the average weight of the pups (black line) and the distribution of their weight (gray area).
Photo book
In the future we will follow two of pups in their development. To emphasize the differences we chose a black&white and a bleu merle pup.
The pictures do not show their relative size.

| At the age of one day the pup cannot see nor hear. It will find its mothers nipples by smell. |
The pup drags itself along with its front legs. |

 |
| After a week the pup has grown, but is still as helpless as a newborn pup. |
The colour patterns are a bit more distinct and the nose and feet are less pink. |
Last Sunday at the age of ten days five out of seven pups opened their eyes. This has quite an impact on the life of a pup. Often it influences the growth a bit.
We'll end with a picture of the happy family.
