Rebel x Echo
The mating
A lot earlier than expected but probably triggered by the fact that her mother Wicked was in heat, Rebel (pictures) came in heat on September 13th. We have thought things over for a couple of days, because two litters at the same time is not quite ideal, but soon we reached the conclusion that it was the best time for her litter. Rebel wouldn't miss too many agility tournaments during the winter, which is always a quiet time in agility. Her mother Wicked hasn't produced large litters and because many daughters take after their mother we couldn't expect too many pups from the both of them. We had to think a bit longer about the right sire for this litter, for we had so many candidates which are interesting, beautiful, healthy and have a great will to work. In the end we decided for our first choice: Bryning Leap in the Dark (Echo). This time we could once again use our own males to get an indication for the right time for the mating. A little earlier than expected, on September 22nd we went to Belgium. They didn't need much time for the first mating to succeed! Rebel stayed with her lover and we picked her up on September 24th after two successful matings.
Counting from the first mating the pups from this special, colourful and very promising combination are expected around November 24th 2008.
Ultrasound
We didn't have real doubts about Rebel being pregnant either, but just to be completely sure we had our vet make an ultrasound on day 28 of the pregnancy. Luckily we saw a series of embryos. Now we can prepare ourselves for the litters out of mother and daughter, under the experienced supervision of grandma Spottie.
